One of the most enchanting sights to see is the ZOOLIGHTS at the Calgary Zoo!
ZOOLIGHTS lets senior loved ones and their family members adventure through a magical winter landscape while enjoying spectacular holiday lights and stunning lit-up Christmas trees.
Unfortunately, due to colder temperatures, you won’t be able to see all of the animals during your night adventure. However, you can purchase “Sunlight to ZOOLIGHTS” tickets, where you can spend the day visiting your favourite zoo animals and exhibits and then take in the sparkling lights of ZOOLIGHTS at night. This combo ticket is a cost-effective and wonderful way to enjoy everything the zoo has to offer this holiday season.

3. A Christmas Carol at Theatre Calgary
Location: Theatre Calgary (220 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 5C4)
Date: End of November – End of January
A Christmas Carol is a timeless tale of Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. Theatre Calgary puts on this play, a hallmark activity for local families in Calgary.
The accessible theatre is the perfect venue to take in this family-friendly, 2-hour play that is sure to get you in the holiday mood! As a December activity, this one is a year-after-year family staple.

4. Glow YYC

Date: Month of December
Looking for a way to get your dose of the holiday season without your dose of winter weather? Check out Glow YYC, a light and shopping event located in the Nutrien Western Event Centre.
This event includes a handful of attractions, including:
- Immersive light gardens
- A local Christmas market with holiday treats, cards, and other gifts
- Live entertainment
- Games and other activities for grandkids
5. Lougheed House Christmas
Location: Lougheed House (707 13 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2R 0K8)
Cost: $6.50 for seniors 65+
Date: Month of December
There’s nothing quite like seeing a historic house with all its’ halls decked with holly! The Lougheed House boasts 20 rooms and nooks, all decorated for the holiday season. This is one of our favourite December activities that has been running since 1891!
In addition to the stunning lit-up home, the Christmas event offers fun programs like intimate and unforgettable experiences with classic characters like Santa and Scrooge.
