Frequently Asked Questions

Ohana Care’s approach is focused on building meaningful relationships, ensuring that every client’s unique needs are met with both compassion and flexibility. To support this, caregivers commit to a minimum four-hour visit, allowing ample time for thorough care and genuine connection.

In Episode 10 of Caring Conversations, hosts Melissa Therrien, RN, and Liz Lewington, LPN, discuss the distinctive aspects of Ohana Care's home care philosophy. To gain a deeper understanding of our services and approach, we encourage you to watch the full episode below:

Home care lets you stay in the comfort and familiarity of your own home while receiving the care and support you need. Unlike a nursing home or assisted living facility, it doesn't require you to relocate, allowing you to maintain your independence, routines, and personal space.

There are three levels of care, including:

  • Basic Home Care: Non-medical support provided at home for individuals who need help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, meal prep, medication reminders, and light health monitoring.
  • Assisted Living: More support than basic home care, with 24-hour staff available to assist with personal care, mobility, and some medical needs. Residents typically live in their homes, with access to meals, housekeeping, and recreational activities.
  • Long-Term Care: Designed for individuals with complex health needs requiring 24/7 medical and personal care in a facility. Staffed by nurses and healthcare aides, these facilities offer social and recreational amenities to support residents’ quality of life.

The cost of in-home care is often a personal decision and can vary based on each family's situation. Sometimes, aging adults choose to pay for their care, while other times, family members may assist with the expenses. It’s important to discuss the options and find the best solution for everyone involved.

If you or your loved one are having difficulty with personal care or daily activities, such as housekeeping or hygiene, it may be time to consider a care plan. Our qualified caregivers can work with you to create a personalized care plan that supports your well-being. Contact us to get started.
