As a veteran, there are financial assistance programs to help you remain independent. The Veterans Independence Program and Veterans Affairs cover a wide range of our services.

Veterans Assistance & Financial Resources

The Veterans Independence Program (VIP) helps you remain independent and self-sufficient in your home and community. Depending on your circumstances, health, and financial needs, eligible Veterans may qualify for financial assistance.

VIP does not replace other federal, provincial or municipal programs. Instead its role is to complement existing programs to help meet your needs.

You may qualify for VIP, if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • You have qualified for a disability benefit;
  • You have qualified for the War Veterans Allowance;
  • You recieve of Prisoner of War Compensation;
  • You are an eligible Veteran who cannot access a Contract Bed (also known as a Priority Access Bed).

Services Covered by VIP

Ohana Care offers a wide array of services covered by the VIP program:

  • Adult Day Program – Recreation services with a therapeutic and community focus;
  • Transportation – To and from the day program;
  • Health and Support Services – Assessments for personal care services;
  • Personal Care – Bathing, dressing, eating;
  • Ambulatory Health CareFoot care assessment and care;
  • Housekeeping – Errands services for need of items, laundry, meal preparation;
  • Grounds Maintenance Services – Snow removal, lawn mowing, leaf raking.

Veterans Affairs Funding

The Veterans Affairs Funding programs support veteran families and low-income veterans with income, emergency funding and help to make ends meet. This includes:

  • Compensation for illness or physical injuries
  • Help with health expenses such as medical bills
  • Income support to help with mortgage, rent, pay utilities and bills, etc

To apply for VIP, fill out the application form and mail it to the address on the form. Area Offices and Services Canada can assist with filling the forms on-site as well. You can also contact the VAC Assistance Services at 1-800-268-7708. Ohana can print the form and mail it to you.
