What is Home Care For Parkinson's Disease?

Living with Parkinson's disease involves navigating progressive changes in mobility, balance, and daily function. Parkinson's home care services provide the essential support needed to manage these symptoms safely, ensuring you or your loved one can remain comfortable and active in a familiar environment.

Parkinson’s Is More Than Tremors

While tremors are a common sign, Parkinson’s also affects balance, movement speed (bradykinesia), sleep, and coordination. Comprehensive home care for Parkinson’s disease addresses all these aspects.

Why Medication Timing Is Critical

For people living with Parkinson’s, medication must be taken on a strict schedule to manage symptoms effectively. Our caregivers ensure doses are never missed.

The Role of Movement in Parkinson’s Care

Staying active is vital for managing Parkinson's. As part of our in-home care for Parkinson's patients, our caregivers encourage safe exercise and movement to help maintain strength and flexibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Home care for Parkinson's disease is specialized to address the specific motor and non-motor symptoms of the disease. Our caregivers understand the importance of "on" and "off" periods, the critical nature of medication timing, and the patience required when movement becomes slow (bradykinesia) or "freezing" occurs. At Ohana Care, we heavily focus on fall prevention, mobility support, and maintaining a consistent routine.

Yes. We know that movement is medicine for Parkinson's. While our caregivers do not replace physical therapists, they can support and encourage you or your loved one to complete prescribed daily exercises, go for safe walks, and maintain an active lifestyle to help preserve strength and flexibility.

Absolutely. Our caregivers can prepare nutritious meals tailored to specific dietary needs, such as soft foods or bite-sized portions, to make eating safer and easier. We can also provide standby assistance during meals to ensure safety and prevent choking hazards.

We strive to provide consistent caregivers whenever possible. We understand that Parkinson's patients benefit greatly from routine and familiarity. Having a consistent caregiver allows them to learn your specific symptoms, anticipate your needs during "off" times, and build a trusting relationship.

Our Health Care Aides can provide timely medication reminders and assistance with pre-measured blister packs to ensure doses are never missed, which is vital for managing Parkinson's symptoms. If you require someone to administer injections or manage complex medication administration, we can provide Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Registered Nurses (RNs) for that level of care.

Ohana Care is designed to be flexible. We do not require long-term contracts, so you can adjust your care plan as needs evolve. Whether you need to increase hours for more support or adjust schedules to match changing sleep patterns, we are here to adapt with you. We just ask for 24 hours' notice for schedule changes.

We have a 4-hour minimum per visit to ensure we can provide meaningful, unhurried care that covers all daily needs, from hygiene to companionship. However, there is no minimum number of visits required per week, so you can book care as often or as little as you need.
