What is In-Home Care?

In-home care assistance is a service that caregivers provide to older adults who reside in their own homes. At Ohana Care, we specialize in elderly home care assistance in private residences, live-in facilities, and retirement homes. This care allows seniors to stay in a familiar home environment, surrounded by their belongings and cherished memories while receiving medical, personal, or home support.

Our senior home care services include:

Our Senior Home Care Services

Ohana Care’s professional Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides undergo regular training to address a variety of needs and provide high-quality home care with the following services.

Our team specializes in companionship, offering mental and social stimulation through activities such as chatting, walking, shopping, and more. We are here to accompany your elderly loved ones to reduce isolation and ensure their happiness and well-being.

If your family caregiver has a vacation planned or has other personal obligations, we’re here to provide respite care. Our care team can assist family caregivers, making sure senior clients receive the care they require while the caregiver takes a well-deserved break.

We offer dementia care services to support those experiencing cognitive decline. Backed by expertise and empathy, our team is trained to care for all forms of dementia with compassion. Through our senior home care services, we aim to ease any concerns, anxiety, or confusion you or your loved one may be facing.

Dressing Assistance

Whether you spend the day resting at home or going out shopping, our team will ensure you are always dressed comfortably because we believe that when we look good, we feel good.

Bathing Assistance

To prevent the risk of a serious injury from a slip or fall, it’s important to lend a helping hand every time our elderly loved ones step into the shower. That’s why our Health Care Aids are equipped to ensure a comfortable and safe bathing experience.

Medication Assistance

Receiving the right medications on time, every time, is of the utmost importance. We will ensure that your loved one always keeps up with their medications so they can focus more on what they love doing.

Meal Assistance

As we age, our bodies change the way we metabolize food. Our trained staff will aid you in preparing your preferred meals while maintaining a nutritious diet, whether for a single meal or the entire week. We offer flexible meal preparation as a part of our senior home care assistance plans. Simply call us, and we’ll arrange a meeting to discuss your dietary restrictions and requirements.

If you need someone to provide high-quality care to your loved ones 24/7, we’ll send our staff to your own home to ensure you have constant supervision for your loved ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your loved one’s safety is our top priority, which is why we’re a licensed and bonded company that performs criminal and vulnerable sector police checks on all our home care employees.

When returning from the hospital

Transitioning from 24/7 assistance to being alone can be scary and unsafe. HCAs and LPNs can help you cope with your return and set you up for a speedy recovery.

LEARN ABOUT RESPITE CARE

When you or your loved one has an unexpected fall

Assisted living includes daily check-ins, companionship, transportation to medical appointments or social activities, running errands, help around the house, grocery shopping, a presence when contractors (such as landscapers, electricians, or plumbers) come in, assistance with daily living activities, regular home risk consultations, and help with technology.

When independence is at stake

Respite care for the primary caregiver or family member, assistance around the house, companionship during social activities, intellectual stimulation, transportation to and from a day program, and guidance for seniors living with dementia to help with chores.

When care becomes too much for the primary caregiver

If family caregivers are increasingly tired and frustrated or hurt themselves, there are two patients. We can care for the household, assist with chores to alleviate stress, and give everyone time to enjoy each other’s company!

When the primary caregiver is going away

Ohana Care has the option for short-term caregiver contracts.

When learning of a new diagnosis or going through new treatments

In some cases, new medications can lead to unwanted side effects, and conducting daily wellness checks may not be feasible. Our LPNs and HCAs assist by monitoring vitals, moods, skin, balance, and more. Additionally, our team is equipped to provide care if you have severe nausea, get very weak, are at risk of falling, or if your judgment is impeded.

We’re registered with the Veterans Affairs for health services, Veterans Respite, and Veterans Independence Program.

Our Health Care Aides also support our clients' quality of life by doing laundry, changing bedding, respecting their routine, and providing companionship.

Health Care Aides also serve as companions when clients experience “Unscheduled Care Needs,” which refers to assistance required throughout the day that cannot be scheduled. These needs include incontinence, transfers, asthma pumps, PRN medication (aches, constipation, diarrhea, headaches), and more.

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) primarily focus on the medical aspects of client care. Their visits may be as brief as one hour, during which they ensure there aren’t any significant changes in the client’s health, assist with more complex care needs, verify that HCAs are adhering to the care plan, and assess the client’s overall well-being. LPNs may only visit clients immediately following their discharge from the hospital or when implementing a new care plan.

During our initial meeting, we will collaboratively assess what best suits you and your family. We will consider factors such as medical conditions, gender, and any further requirements. If at any point you are dissatisfied with the caregiver entering your home, please let us know as soon as possible. It's important to us that you feel safe, respected, and in control of the situation.

We charge for a minimum of four hours, but encourage you to make the most of this time. During our visit, we can perform a home safety check, fold laundry, wash the dishes, inspect refrigerator items to ensure they haven’t expired, help type emails, assist with phone calls, and execute other basic care needs. However, some exceptions may apply to the minimum hours. Book your free consultation to find out more.

We provide real-time web access to your care information through our Family Portal, which can be accessed from anywhere, on any device. Share access with as many people as you want so everyone can stay up-to-date on your full visit schedule, care team, care plan, visit updates, and invoices.
