Signs You Or Your Loved One Need Foot Care Services

There are many reasons why you or your loved one may require elderly foot care:

Living With Diabetes

Managing diabetes can be quite difficult for seniors. MP Fortin joined Global News Calgary with key areas to focus on when living with diabetes.

Those living with diabetes are at a heightened risk of foot problems, arthritis, and amputation. Due to this, you must provide good care to your feet daily.

It’s important to seek foot care services from a specialist if you’re showing any of the following signs:

  • Bumps
  • Dry or Shiny skin
  • Unbalanced temperatures
  • Pain when walking, or more

It’s important to seek attention from a foot care specialist rather than attempt to resolve your foot pain on your own.

Experiencing Foot Pain

Fungal Nails

Toenail fungus is an infection on a toenail that can cause discoloration and thickness and is likely to crack or break the nail. This fungus can be difficult to treat and can return after it has been cured.

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails can occur when the side of the nail grows into the flesh on the toe. Ingrown nails can cause severe discomfort, infection, swelling, and redness.

Calluses are formed when a specific area on the foot is exposed to stress. The body protects the exposed location by forming a callus-thickened area.

Painful Corns

Corns often occur on the side of toes that adjoin surrounding toes, particularly when constant friction or pressure occurs. Corns are smaller than calluses and often inflame the skin.

Foot Irregularities

Foot irregularities can create pressure points that can contribute to forming a variety of foot pain. It’s important to get foot care when feeling any discomfort in your feet.

Self Care Plans to Meet Your Needs

About Our Advanced Foot Care Treatment Process

Our treatment process is broken down into four steps to ensure you consistently receive the care you need.

Consultation With a Foot Care Specialist

After meeting with our specialist, we will conduct a professional assessment of your current foot health. Every time our nurses visit your home, we will assess your overall foot health.

Daily Foot Care

Our nurses will wash and dry your feet during your foot care visit using mild soap and water. For good self-care practice, try to wear clean socks daily to reduce the chances of blisters or athlete's foot.

Toenail Care

It's important that toenails are trimmed regularly. Our nurses cut toenails straight across rather than on a curve and file down any sharp edges with an emery board.

Daily Foot Inspection

When we provide your daily foot inspection, we will check the tops and bottoms of your feet and any other areas that need to be assessed. We'll look for any bumps, cuts, blisters, ingrown nails, and more to ensure you have good foot health.

Additional Hand & Nail Care Services

At Ohana Care, we can also provide hand care services. We’ll hydrate your hands and nails by using good hand cream to reduce the risk of your nails becoming brittle and fragile.
