Signs You Or Your Loved One Need Foot Care Services

There are a variety of reasons why you or your loved one require elderly foot care.

Living With Diabetes

Managing diabetes can be quite difficult for seniors. MP Fortin joined Global News Calgary with key areas to focus on when living with diabetes.

Those living with diabetes are at a heightened risk of foot problems, amputation, and arthritis. That’s why you must provide good care to your feet daily.

If you’re showing any of the following signs, it’s important to seek foot care services from a specialist:

  • Dry or Shiny skin
  • Unbalanced temperatures
  • Bumps
  • Pain when walking, or more

If you have any foot pain, please seek attention from a foot care specialist rather than attempting to resolve it alone.

Experiencing Foot Pain

Fungal Nails

Toenail fungus is a type of infection on a toenail, causing thickness and discolouration that can break or crack the nail. This fungus can be challenging to treat and can reoccur after being cured.

Ingrown Toenails

When the side of a nail grows into the flesh on the toe, it can lead to ingrown toenails. Ingrown nails can cause severe infection, swelling, redness, and discomfort.

Calluses

Calluses are often formed when a particular area on the foot is exposed to stress. The body protects the exposed location by forming a callus-thickened area.

Painful Corns

Corns frequently develop on the side of toes that adjoin surrounding toes, particularly when constant pressure or friction occurs. Corns are smaller than calluses and often cause skin inflammation.

Foot Irregularities

Foot irregularities can lead to pressure points that may cause various types of foot pain. It’s crucial to seek foot care assistance if you’re experiencing any discomfort in your feet.

About Our Advanced Foot Care Treatment Process

Ohana Care’s foot care treatment process is broken down into four steps to ensure you continually receive the care you deserve.

Consultation With a Foot Care Specialist

After meeting with our foot care specialist, we’ll conduct a professional assessment of your current foot health. Each time our nurses visit your home, they will assess your overall foot health.

Daily Foot Care

Our nurses will wash your feet with water and mild soap and dry them during your daily foot care visit. To maintain good foot care, we recommend wearing clean socks daily to reduce the chances of athlete’s foot or blisters.

Toenail Care

Toenails must be trimmed regularly to avoid poor foot health. Ohana Care’s nurses cut toenails straight across rather than on a curve, filing down sharp edges with an emery board.

Daily Foot Inspection

During your daily foot inspection, we’ll check all areas of your feet for cuts, ingrown nails, bumps, blisters, and more to ensure you have good foot health.

Additional Hand & Nail Care Services

In addition to foot care, we can also provide hand and nail care services. Our nurses will hydrate your hands and nails with a good hand cream to reduce the risk of fragile and brittle nails.
